When a user opens a short link, our server knows the user's IP address. Each IP address is associated with the server provider and its physical location. Therefore, we use a very large database with IP addresses (IP ranges) and their associated location (geolocation with the country and sometimes the city of the user).
You can set the stats as "private" (only you will be able to view them) if you are logged in when you create a short link. Just click "Make stats private" (only available to registered users). You can also change the privateness of the stats using the admin page.
Link shortening tools are used to create shorter, easier-to-read URLs that redirect to a web page. Shortened links are useful for social networks such as Twitter, where character counts are limited.
Shortened link tools (platforms) also provide analytics and tracking of the number of clicks on a shortened link.
Many social media management software products provide built-in link reduction and/or integrate with standalone link reduction tools.
